NARRATIVE STORYTELLING

Prerequisites: audition / invite only
Performances: 8.15, 8.22, 8.29, 9.12

Improvised Storytelling focuses on creating and sustaining long-form improvised stories. Building on the actor and director skills you’re already developing, this class adds to the writer’s brain: how character choices, relationships, and emotional stakes shape a story over time.

Rather than following a single protagonist, this class explores ensemble storytelling, where multiple characters, intersecting storylines, and relationships come together to create one cohesive narrative. Together we’ll explore how to track story threads, build meaningful connections between characters, and create a larger story that feels surprising, inevitable, and earned.

Through the study of character archetypes, emotional wants, relationships, and narrative structure, you’ll learn how to create scenes that grow naturally from what has already been established, where each moment comes out of the one before it. Whether working in drama, comedy, romance, or another genre, you’ll practice balancing character, relationship, and story while helping the ensemble build a rich and connected world.

This class is for students ready to deepen their understanding of long-form narrative and discover how multiple storylines can come together to create a compelling improvised story.
