IMPROVISED SCENE STUDY
Prerequisites: intermediate improvisors
Performances: no performance
Improvised Scene Study is a required course for students who have completed Foundations and are ready to deepen their acting craft within improvised scenes.
This class blends performance fundamentals with spontaneous play, focusing on how actors listen, respond, move, and affect one another in real time. The work centers truth, presence, and relationship—allowing scenes to emerge honestly rather than being driven by jokes or forced story.
The class is rooted in the work of Keith Johnstone, students explore status, spontaneity, and emotional availability as tools for building grounded, human performances. Emphasis is placed on moment-to-moment response, physical presence, and letting scenes unfold through genuine connection.
This course is ensemble-based and process-focused, with no class show. Improvised Scene Study prepares students for advanced performance and narrative-based classes by strengthening the core skills that support compelling work across improv, scripted scenes, and rehearsal rooms.
