Theatre Updates

An image looking up at the seats in the theatre with lights shining down.

♫♬…It’s beginning to look a lot like… theater, everywhere we go…♫♬

We’ve just installed the seating in our main ArtSpace and we’re proud to say, there’s not a bad seat in the house.

When we open our doors, we look forward to welcoming our audiences with general admission seating, but we also make it a priority to ensure that any audience member requiring special seating has the access and time needed to get to their most comfortable spot. Another way we create Brave Spaces for All.

We’re still looking for volunteers to assist with the opening and beyond! Please hit the volunteer button and someone will contact you shortly!

Zakiya Urbi Young’s SUBURBAN BLACK GIRL directed by Jacole Kitchen.

April 19 – May 13, 2025

Zakiya Young: poster child for racial reconciliation. She code switches with lightning speed. White sorority? Like, no prob. A Black and Latine church with a White pastor? She’ll praise God in Spanish! Broadway? Is it color blind casting or an all-Black show? Yes, she can do it all because this Suburban Black Girl has mastered the art of being ‘non-threatening.’ But when the new political regime begins criminalizing “otherness”, will she remain safe in her glass house of assimilation? Or will current events raze that house into shards of nonconformity?

Roger Q Mason’s CALIFORNIA STORY directed by Michael Alvarez

May 9 – June 3, 2025

Outside In will be producing California Story, the first play in the Califas Trilogy. The play will be produced offsite at Los Angeles City College – Caminito Theater

This genre-defying historical drama explores the complex journey of California’s last Mexican governor, Pío Pico, whose pursuit of the American Dream forces him to sacrifice his family, identity, and integrity. The play takes audiences on a journey between California’s past and a dystopian water-world future, confronting the costs of ambition, race, and privilege in America. At its heart, the play follows Pío Pico, whose sacrifices reflect the cost of clinging to the American dream during California’s transition into statehood in the 1800s.

The Califas Trilogy is made in partnership with Skylight Theatre and Roots and Wings Project, all the plays in the trilogy will be presented throughout May & June.

There will also be a series of talkbacks in May. Click on the image for more information.

Dearest Reader,

You are cordially invited to join us for an entirely improvised play in the style of Jane Austen  – at Outside In Theatre.

Featuring fierce heroines, amiable suiters, and dashing gentle-thems, audiences will swoon as they experience all the classic elements of Jane as modern love stories unfold before their eyes.

If you don’t have an idea but want to be a part of the Incubator as an individual or a group, please sign-up to be to be a part of the Improv R&D Team, an improv set where we will give you the format/performance-concept right before the show starts. It’s max experimentation and max fun!

The Incubator is the perfect show to come watch as well. We’re looking to create a space to experiment, inspire, and be inspired. So even if you don’t have an idea yet, please come out and support your fellow performers!
