REVIEWS

★★★★ | From Alex Grunberg via ED Fest Mag Link

“Rogers is a very talented actress … this skilful blend of the internal and external experience layers in emotional revelations that feel very genuine, leaving ample room for complexity in relation to grief, romance, and family dynamics.”

★★★★ | From Shadows On The Wall Link

“It’s strikingly well written, using poetry, music and shadow projections to drive home the deeper ideas that ripple through her story.” “[Kacie] performs in a vividly open-handed way that pulls us in, providing sharp moments of insight and some dark jabs of emotion.”

★★★★ | From Malcolm Beckett via TheatreVibe Link

“This is a good moving story written and told well by Kacie Rogers. You will find it telling on so many levels. I wish her well and recommend seeing it”

From Edward Hong via The Nerds Of Color | Link

“…a riveting showcase…”
“…adds immensely to this show is the fantastic usage of shadow puppetry…”
“…Rogers absolutely shines in a tour-de-force performance that perfectly exemplifies why she is so often seen on the L.A. stage.”
“…I celebrate this gorgeous production written and performed by one of the best actors Los Angeles has to offer.”

From Samantha Simmonds-Rinceros via Noho Arts Disctric Link

“Every time she’s on stage I just can’t take my eyes off her.”
“The narrative of this show leaps about playfully, like a story you are telling someone when a more interesting points occur to you and you just have to digress a little. But this effect feels natural, fluid, organic, and perfectly placed.” (maybe that one is too long)
“…beautifully written and rivetingly performed play…”
I Sell Windows is also very, very funny.”
I Sell Windows is one of those exceptional pieces of theatre that stays with you long after the ride home. It has returned to me so many times in the past week. In smiles and in the strength of Kacie’s face as she sings, and in the mesmerizing fluttering of the storytelling, like a moth on a window.”

ADDITIONAL INFO

Jessica Hanna, Producing Artistic Director of Outside In Theatre, says,”I have been a long time fan of Kacie’s as an actor. When she invited me to a work-in-progress of this solo piece, I was moved by her writing and found the storytelling deeply compelling. I immediately wanted to find ways to support this play’s journey. I am so excited to be collaborating with Bottle Tree Theatre on this piece, the first production in our ArtBox studio. Outside In Theatre has a directive to develop art & artists and we are delighted to be supporting the launch of Bottle Tree Theatre with this piece. This is just the beginning of the significant art they will produce!”

Chelsea Boyd, Co-Artistic Director Bottle Tree Theatre, says “I Sell Windows is a perfect introduction to the work Bottle Tree aims to produce and the inspiration behind our name – that which is at once a conduit to our ancestors, a current reflection of ourselves and our community, and an afro-futuristic kaleidoscope that invites audiences to see themselves.”

“I hope audiences feel seen and accepted through watching I Sell Windows. The process of creating the show was a breaking of something into something else. A healing.” says performer & playwright, Kacie Rogers, “I think there’s a certain healing that everyone needs and I hope that I Sell Windows provides even just a little bit of catharsis that can aid in a healing journey.”

Jaquita Ta’le, Director, says “I also hope that the visual elements of I Sell Windows further bring audiences into the magic of the world we’re creating. Though they’re in the “shadows”, puppeteers Brittaney Talbot and Perry Daniel artfully bring to life many of the characters and scenarios Kacie ruminates on.”

Outside In Theatre is a new non-profit theatre company based in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles that focuses on the development of new plays and the artists creating them. I Sell Windows was first developed while completing the Shay Fellowship through Free the Arts with work in progress showings at Bed-Stuy Art House in NYC and Greenway Court in Los Angeles.

A number of special event nights will be offered including a Blackout night and a BASL interpreted performance, as well as a trio of Talkback Tuesdays where the performance will be followed by a panel of speakers who will speak on creating solo shows, processing grief, and women in puppetry. Support Black Theatre will also collaborate on a special performance for their organization followed by a post show discussion on Black Women in Theatre.
